Self Portrait #19

This is a character drawing I did of myself for a comic strip a friend and I are doing. His name is Jeremy, and he does most of the actual writing for the comic. The characters were all drawn by me, and I did the layouts of each strip. In the comic my name is Peter, for the sake of one joke, which has yet to be printed.

If you are interested in checking that out you can find it here: http://blacksockcomic.blogspot.com

It is NOT a kid friendly strip, and may offend the reader. You have been warned.

Self Portrait #17

This is my favorite hoodie. It has a tendency to scare children, but my daughter thinks it's hilarious. I got it years ago at a Halloween USA, and have been wearing it ever since. I have clearly been copied numerous times in the past few years. The skeleton hoodie was some what of a trend for a while. But I will continue on because I don't participate in fads.

Guest Portrait(s?)

Well this is a first. For two reason actually.

First off, I didn't take this picture, so it's not a self portrait. I have my friend Kristy Shook to thank for that. Secondly, the portrait of me on the balloon was not drawn by me, that was by another friend, Antonio Pacifici. So this is a double non-self portrait, portrait. You're welcome.

This picture was taken during my birthday celebration a couple days ago. Thank you to everyone for a great time.

Self Portrait #16

"So what's the most unflattering picture I could take of my face?", was the question that had me take this one. I don't look great here.

Self Portrait #15

I missed last week, mostly because I was insanely busy. This weeks offering is just a quick sketch of me in some illustrative style that I can't  really pin point. I was just doodling, playing around lines, and this formed.

Self Portrait #14

A little more playing around with the new tablet. You might notice that my sideburns are very uneven. If you didn't, then you were like me until I took this picture. Has since been corrected, but will stand for all time now!

Self Portrait #13

Well thanks to Christmas and a few Amazon gift cards I was able to get a Wacom Bamboo Capture tablet. I've wanted one for quite some time, because I knew it would add a whole new level to my sketching. Not because it would improve it, but it would be more accessible being that it is on my computer. No process after a I finish something to get it to my hard drive for use, means less aggravation for me. Here's a quick sketch I did just before posting, which isn't super but there is a huge learning curve on this thing. Only one way to get better, keep going...spiral out.

Self Portrait #12

This was another, very tiny, sketch from my sketch book. I do not recall the inspiration in the slightest, but judging from the size, about as big as a nickel, I was going for some sort of iconography. I don't know that it succeeds in doing so, but I do like the idea. Using only straight lines to define the region of the hair is a play on cross hatching, a technique I always liked.

Self Portrait #10

I'm not really sure how I feel about this one. I think at the time I was trying to recreate the feel of the Nickelodeon cartoon "Doug". Now I'm aware that it doesn't really look like a character that would be pulled from the cels of that show, but I was mostly going off the feeling of the character designs from memory. It was way to an abstract idea too be good.

Self Portrait #9

This is a very tiny one, so please excuse how blurry it is. I cannot recall what was the inspiration behind the style of this, but I like it none the less. Now that I'm typing this and thinking about it, I believe I was emulating a cartoon style that just happened to be on the time... Which one, I will never remember.
